Advanced stainless steel processing technology

At Lumascape, we do this using a three-stage finish process on most stainless steel light fixtures. It's called ElectroPolishPlus TM , and it ensures your stainless steel stays "stainless" for a long time.

SS316 stainless steel

In order to adapt to harsh environments, Lumascape's lamps are made of 316 stainless steel because of its excellent corrosion resistance.

316 stainless steel is often referred to as "marine grade" because of its good resistance to crevice and pitting corrosion in chloride environments (i.e. coastal/marine areas).

The activity of various common metals is graded in the electrochemical corrosion series. After precious metals, grade 316 stainless steel is the next best choice.

The use of 316-grade marine stainless steel and other high-grade materials is the reason why we offer a 10-year structural warranty on stainless-steel ground luminaires and 5 years on underwater luminaires.

 

ElectroPolishPlus  Process

Machining
of stainless steel destroys the natural chromium oxide (Cr 2 O 3 ) layer, giving stainless steel excellent corrosion resistance.

After machining, some cemented carbide and other metal impurities will remain.

Step 1: Pickling
This process cleans the surface of all impurities.

Step 2: Polishing
This process smoothes the surface, so chlorides and other reactive particles don't get caught on the surface.

Step 3: Passivation Treatment
In the final stage of the process, a layer of Cr2O3 of uniform thickness is applied to the surface for maximum corrosion resistance.
